Doug Linney, President
Doug has served the environmental community of California for over 35 years as an advocate, political strategist, coalition builder, and fundraiser. In 1996, he founded The Next Generation (TNG) in an effort to advance the environmental agenda by offering campaign services and political strategy to nonprofit organizations, environmental coalitions, and progressive candidates.
Doug has run numerous campaigns at the state, regional, and local level and has specialized in water, energy, forestry, and environmental tax reform issues. In 2002, he was recognized with the Mark Dubois River Conservationist Award given by Friends of the River. His environmental service includes past or present membership on the boards of directors for the California League of Conservation Voters, Friends of the River, ecoVenture, Green Capitol, the Planning and Conservation League, and the East Bay Municipal Utility District.
From 1988 to 1994, Doug was the Political Director of the California League of Conservation Voters, a public interest organization that supports environmentally minded candidates for public office. Doug received his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Public Policy from the University of California, Davis.
Chris Morrill, Campaigns Director
Chris has years of experience as a manager, organizer and strategist on many local and national campaigns. He’s had significant success building diverse coalitions on the ground and through partner organizations.
Most recently, Chris worked as the Deputy Campaign Manager at the California League of Conservation Voters on the “Price We All Pay” Campaign. He developed and managed a field program focused on the Central Valley and Inland Empire in California. The effort worked to build local support for H.R. 20- The Government By the People Act.
Previously, Chris worked as the Advocacy and Outreach Manager at Save the Children on a maternal and child health campaign. His work took him to target Congressional districts in IL, TN, NJ, CT and FL developing partnerships and training local champions.
Chris is a former Peace Corps Volunteer from El Salvador and Bolivia. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from the Santa Clara University and a Master’s Degree from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
Jason Gohlke, New Media Director
Jason joined TNG during the 2016 general election cycle, during which he directed and executed online strategy for TNG clients. He created websites and online ads and wrote successful fundraising and other emails for clients. He also designed a number of print pieces. Since the election, he has been working on improving TNG’s online presence.
As a member of the staff of the California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) for more than thirteen years, he had a wide range of responsibilities in graphic design, technology, writing, editing, and project management. Prior to moving to the Bay Area, Jason was Web Designer for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. He also canvassed door to door in sub-zero temperatures in the Twin Cities, a singular experience.
A native of Wisconsin, Jason graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art/Graphic Design and Political Science.
Dup Crosson, Operations & Office Manager
Dup joined TNG in 2016 after moving to Oakland from his native Maine. In addition to covering the administrative side of TNG, he also assists with project management and communications.
Dup has a B.S. in Environmental Management from UNC–Asheville and draws from his years working on grassroots campaigns in conservation, ecology, the arts, climate change, and social justice. He was a top fundraiser for the Yes On 1 campaign in Maine in 2012 – the first voter-approved referendum on marriage equality – and has helped nonprofits like Friends of Merrymeeting Bay and the Berkeley Public Library Foundation reach bigger and more diverse audiences with his skills in advocacy, outreach, and development.
Nidia Mikkonen, Art Director
Nidia works closely with our staff to design original, fresh, graphically striking campaign logos, mail pieces, and campaign literature for our clients, often on very tight deadlines.
Nidia has worked with Doug Linney and TNG for over 20 years.
She has also done design work for The California Bar Association, Alameda County Community Food Bank, Clean Water Action, Fred Finch Youth Center, the Labor Project for Working Families, and the California Child Care Resources and Referral Network.
